Writing Progress Check - 2024 Recap

But that wasn’t all! We planned a housewarming party for Memorial Day weekend and little did Katy know that that party was a cover for another type of party.

An Engagement Party!

We were very blessed to have our friends and family with us as we started the next chapter of our lives together.

My best day was Monday, December 23rd, just before Christmas Eve. I wrote 6076 words in a single day. When I got to the winter break I knew I was close to finishing my draft so I tried my best to get it all out on the page. Writing the first draft is the hardest part. I know I’ll spend months and year editing, fine tuning, and nitpicking my work. But I at least managed to get it on the page, which was the goal for the year.

So here’s to a wildly successful 2024 in my mind! Let’s hope 2025 is even better!

Man, oh man.

2024 was one heck of a year.

Where do I even start?

First, my girlfriend, Katy, and I bought a house.

Last year I sold my house and sat on the money for a while hoping to build up the interest and wait for the perfect listing. So March through April were busy with the house hunt and the negotiations.

So where did that leave my writing? Honestly, by the wayside for a few months.

I did the same tracking for my writing that I did for 2023 maninly as a way to motivate myself to keep pace. But as the year rolled on I felt more and more like I was unable to push myself as a writer. The spring was busy with life events and I rightly put my focus there. The summer was a great opportunity to try and get some writing done, but it wasn’t until the fall and I arranged for someone else to handle my school’s winter show that I was able to really dive in and accomplish my goal of finishing the draft of the fourth book in my series.

In total, I wrote 158.713 for the year of 2024. My daily average was less than last year, but I tried to make time more often in the second half of the year to write, so I ended up writing 23 days more than 2023.
